Nice to see……

Someone else agrees with me about the state of things… I can remember growning up, it was not uncommon to help a stranger at the side of the road, or help someone who knocked on your door. Yes, there seem to be more and more people out there trying to take advantage of people’s good nature. But there were people like that “back in the day”; you just kinda had to use your judgement and take a chance. You didn’t just quit helping people completely. I guess since moving back to a small town again, it’s opening my eyes on how we need to look out for each other. It’s hard to take care of an entire big city, but what about your local neighborhood? When we lived in the “big city” in NC, we were part of a smaller community; our church. We did things as that community to help the less fortunate. We helped local people that were victims of house fires, and even people that were just down on their luck due to layoffs, plant closings, etc.
Now here we are faced with the largest natural disaster in US history. Or that’s what they keep spouting on CNN. Whatever. It’s bad. That’s the point. People are homeless/hungry/thirsty/sick, basically in need. While helping the mass of people is too big a job for one person to do, I heard the best suggestion ever the other day. Why not, as a family, or as a group of some sort, adopt one family. Or one neighborhood adopt another neighborhood. Get together clothes, food, money, whatever they need. It’s not hard. It doesn’t matter if they’re white, black, red, purple, green, or plaid. It doesn’t matter if they habla espanol, sprekin zee deutsch (sorry ’bout the spelling), or parlez vouz franceis (again, sorry). They’re all humans. They’re all part of the same species as you and I (unless there’s some aliens reading this; doubtful). Everyone has at least a tiny bit of compassion. It doesn’t take a ton of money, time, but if you do have a lot of either, then give more. If you don’t, give what you can.

Ok, enough of that for today. Hope everyone is doing well, and hopefully enjoying your holiday weekend. Plan to head out to Hunting Island again, that’s become our fave place to hang out on weekends. Might fire up the grill and burn something good too 🙂

Until next time…..
