HUH???? A Turtle?!?

Hey all – enjoying our trip to Gainesville. Seems Ian is a bit confused though. We were fishing today, not turtle hunting!!! Seriously though – Ian wanted to catch a fish SO badly, and when he reeled in a turtle he was a bit surprised. Made up for not catching any fish; even though Austin caught 5, including 1 so big that it snapped the line just as we were landing it. It was “the monster fish”, and Austin wants another go at him. Little Matt and Hannah each caught about 1500 little plastic fishies – well maybe it was the same ones over and over and over that they kept casting out and reeling back in. Even though it rained most of the day today we all managed to have fun. Little tired today though, we got in kinda late. Forgot to mention the excitement yesterday. Somewhere in S.C. on I-95 the tread peeled off of one of the tires on the camper. Now I know what it’s like for those big rig drivers when that happens – you kinda see bits of rubber flying up in the air in the mirror. At first I thought I’d hit some tire bits, but then when a 2 foot length came peeling off the tire and flew way up in the air, the bumpy ride kinda gave it away. Pulled over and attempted to change it along the side of the Interstate. No luck –
1) The bolts that hold the wheel on were so tightI couldn’t get them loose with the wrench
2) We left the combination to the chain lock that holds the spare on at home
So we bumped about another quarter mile to the next exit and pulled off into a motel parking lot that was closed up. Called Grampa Howe to see if by chance he remembered the combination. Tried a bunch of different ones, but no luck. I ended up heading next door and borrowing a hacksaw to cut thru the chain and get it off. Luckily I’d left the 12 volt impact wrench in the van, and Taya reminded me it was there. Got the tire all changed, but it set us back about an hour. Didn’t get to the campground ’til about 10 or so last night, hence the midnight post last night. Off to Silver Springs tomorrow, keep checking the Flickr site for pictures.
Until next time…..

Roughin’ it

Hey all – we did another somewhat spur of the moment trip, we did have it planned for about a week or so, which is serious planning for our trips 🙂
Am sitting at a picnic table at a KOA campground in Gainesville, Fl typing this. Pretty wild – wireless internet access at a campground!! And we thought we were living it up because we had power and water. Looks like there’s Cable and Telephone hookups too. Wow, camping isn’t what it used to be. I’m not complaining, just kinda boggles my mind is all.
Well, I’ll try and get lotsa pix uploaded as we go – it’s kinda dark right now. We’re set up right next to the fishing pond – you could almost cast into the water from the picnic table if you tried hard enough. Kids have their poles in the van, maybe we’ll catch a big one!
Gonna sign off for the night here, getting a wee bit chilly, time to go inside where it’s warm.

Until next time…..

FINALLY!!!! Took about a million tries, but I finally got my phone to upload pictures again. Can’t wait until May when my contract runs out and we can switch to a cell service that actually works. but enough about sprint….
Here’s our 2 year old on roller skates!! Can’t believe they had a size that fit him. He actually got to be pretty good, only fell a couple times, but got right back up and kept going. He got brave enough towards the end that when they started playing YMCA, he starting hopping to the song. and he didn’t even fall. Hannah and the twins did really well too, less falls, and they really got brave towards the end, getting away from the wall and mixing in with the crowd. We’ll have to do this again!!

brudder, hold my hand

Until next time ……

Took them all roller skating today, even little Matt tied on a pair of skates and stomped around for a few hours. We all had a blast!!! Will have pix as soon as I can get my phone to upload them (oh how I love the SprintPCS “service”). Can’t beleive they had skates to fit a 2-year old!!!
Anyway, we’re getting ready to make another camping trip, finally got all the bugs worked out on the awning of the camper, should be able to withstand most any weather, except a hurricane (let’s hope we don’t see any of them!)
Will have camping pix for ya soon as we get back!
Oh, and BTW – Little Matt is VER happy that lawnmowing season is close at hand

Yes, he's really driving it!

Until next time…..
