What is your definition of education? Is it teaching what to think? Or is it teaching how to think?

Just something to ponder.

“Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education” (GIVE) – AKA Obama’s Youth Brigade

April 15, 2009 Leave a comment

A friend of mine forwarded me this news report:
Here’s a link to the actual Bill itself:
I’m not sure if the news report is completely accurate in the way that they are reading the bill, but it is rather confusing to read.
If you read some of the comments below the news article, there’s one that really jumps out at me:
“I can’t believe this. For me personally, I’m impacted by this new bill because not only am I in school finishing my education in which I take out loans, but I also am a teacher at a Christian school. According to this I have to either quit my job to finish school or quit school to keep my job! Not exactly the change I was looking for………….. “
Another comment that puts my mind at ease about what the news story reported:
“The first read “(a) Prohibited Activities– A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:”
The second reads “(a) Prohibited Activities– An approved national service position under this subtitle may not be used for the following activities:”
So the second version makes clear that it’s not that a person engaging in national service can’t participate in these activities at all – rather, that these activities can not count as their national service position. Summary – We can still preach and worship. But preaching and worshiping doesn’t count as our national service.”
Wow…. I really think we need to work to try and get this bill stopped. The sad thing is, it appears our senators Burr and Hagan voted to pass this thing.
Not only am I against the bill because of the restrictions it puts on our God-given rights to express our faith (AKA “Freedom of Religion” – protected by the first amendment of the consitution), it also is another form of compulsory service (IE The “Draft” – see that forces people into government service.
Now I’m all for volunteers – that’s how America won it’s independance from King George – but with an army of volunteers NOT conscripts. This seems to be an attempt by the goverment to legislate us into getting up off our lazy butts and serving our neighbor, and our country. Nice theory, but it won’t work. Conscripts are not willing volunteers, and you won’t get the same results. You can’t legislate people into wanting to serve. That kind of change comes from the inside, NOT the outside. Yet another example of BAD LAW.
Let your senator/congressman know how you feel! (If you need help finding out who they are, or how to contact them – see

Almost illegal to have a conscience?

April 9, 2009 1 comment

Heard a news report on the radio the other morning, talking about our fearless leader’s the current president’s mr. Obama’s move to overturn the “Conscience Laws” dealing with abortion.
Basically the Federal Government will decide for doctors what their moral convictions have to be. From what I understand from the Heritage Foundation article, Obama and his puppetmasters administration plan to overturn the regulations that protect a health care professional from being forced into performing procedures, or even making referrals for such procedures that go against the health care professional’s moral or religious beliefs. To quote the article linked above:
While numerous federal laws and programs spend billions of dollars each year to promote access to health care services, including reproductive services, conscience protection laws are based on the premise that the nation should never require the violation of individual moral or religious beliefs to achieve health care access. These laws ensure that Americans from diverse faith and philosophical backgrounds are free to pursue their professional calling without fear of persecution or coercion.”
Honestly – isn’t repealing the protection of the “Conscience Laws” just another step in the attempt to curtail our God-given rights protected by the U.S. Constitution? I’m going to try not to get too awful steamed about this, but the pressure’s building…..

Until next time…….

Biden, Vilsack Say Stimulus Will Help Rural Areas?????

April 2, 2009 1 comment

“FAISON, N.C. — Vice President Joe Biden said the federal economic stimulus will help rural communities thrive and not just survive the recession.Biden and Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visited parts of rural North Carolina on Wednesday to tout the benefits of the $787 billion stimulus.During a tour of Goshen Medical Center in Faison, Biden said $635,000 from the package will help the community health care clinic hire two physicians and two nurses. The clinic sees about 41,000 people annually at 20 sites in five counties. The stimulus includes about $2 billion for community health centers, and approximately $500 million has already been sent to clinics nationwide.Biden and Vilsack will visit a fire department later Wednesday in Pikeville.”

Ok, that’s great….. our federal government is going to hand out a pile of money to a small community to hire some medical staff. I’m not sure it’s really gonna make a hill of beans in this small town (population about 780). I know that if you don’t have a job, hence no insurance, and worse – no money, you are a lot less likely to go visit a doctor since you can’t pay your doctor bill.
Dear Washington – stop wasting your taxpayer’s money. Butt out of people’s lives and let us solve our own problems. You’re not our Mommy, and you’re not helping us with your handouts. Read the constitution (you know the document you’ve all sworn to uphold) and figure out exactly what your purpose for existing is. NOT to be Robin Hood, NOT to meddle where you don’t belong. The 10th amendment states –
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Let us local folks solve our local problems, and not look to Washington for handouts. You folks in Washington have no business doing any of this “bailout”! The Constitution limits the federal government to specific tasks that are explicitly stated in the constitution. James Madison (the “father of our Constitution”) said:

“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the Federal Government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State Governments are numerous and indefinite. The former (federal powers) will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation and foreign commerce;… the powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects, which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties and prosperities of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.

One of the reasons most states would not ratify the Constitution was that they were afraid of a powerful centralized government. To calm these fears, the Bill of Rights was added to restrict the role of the federal government. Thomas Jefferson (author of the Bill of Rights – including the 10th amendment) said:
“The way to have good and safe government, is not to trust it all to one, but to divide it” (government, not money) ‘among the many, distributing to every one exactly the function he is competent to. Let the National Government be entrusted with the defense of the nation and its foreign and federal relations; the State governments with the civil rights, laws, police, and administration of what concerns the State generally; the counties with the local concerns of the counties, and each ward direct the interests within itself. … What has destroyed liberty and the rights of man in every government which has ever existed under the sun? The generalizing and concentrating all cares and powers into one body, no matter whether of the autocrats of Russia or France, or of the aristocrats of a Venetian senate.

Remember, this is the United StateS of America, NOT the United State of America. Let the local issues be handled by the local people. Butt out Washington.

Until next time…..
