Billy Graham

May 25, 2009 Leave a comment

Heading down to Charlotte to check out Billy Graham museum tomorrow. A friend of mine FWD’d this to me today, thought it was fitting in light of tomorrow’s trip:

Billy Graham’s Prayer For Our Nation.

‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare.. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem We have abused power and called it politics… We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!’

Why?

May 22, 2009 1 comment

We get asked that question a lot – “Why do you homeschool”? I’ve posted on that in the past (See here).
We feel like what is being taught in the public government schools today, runs contrary to our beliefs. We don’t believe in the theory of evolution which is taught as fact by the schools. We believe in abstinence as the sanest and safest way to prevent STD’s and childhood pregnancy, the schools instead present contraception as the answer. We believe our children should learn personal responsibility, not look for ways to avoid the consequences of their actions. We feel that our children should learn how to think, NOT be spoon fed trivia and taught what to think. These are just a few of hundreds of reasons why we choose to homeschool our family.

But I read a quote today that distills it down to the most important reason –

Give me the children, I will give you a nation. When an opponent declares ‘I will not come over to your side’, I calmly say ‘Your child belongs to us already.’
What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community.”— Adolph Hitler (1939)

Yes, I quoted one of the most evil, mass-murdering human beings of the 20th century. I’ve never quoted that man before, but today I am quoting him. He really opened my eyes…..

If we (parents) don’t take responsibility for passing on our family’s beliefs and values, the next most likely place they will get them from is a government institution.

Yikes.

Until next time…..

H.R. 1913 and pending in the Senate as S. 909 – AKA "Pedophile Protection Act"

May 15, 2009 Leave a comment

Dr. James Dobson has a very good address on his site this morning: http://www.focusonthefamily.com/popups/media_player.aspx?LatestDaily=1.
He talks about how pastors who preach against what the Bible considers unnatural/immoral behaviour could be charged with a federal hate crime.
He also talks about how the victim of a flasher who “hits the pervert with her purse” could be charged with a federal hate crime, while the flasher gets a summons to appear for a misdemeanor…..

Um – what’s up with this folks???? Doesn’t this seem backwards? Does this make anyone besides me MAD?!? I thought “politically correct” speech was bad, but this is TOO FAR. I agree that we need a massive prayer campaign for this BAD LAW to be defeated. I also think that we should make everyone we can aware of this law, and encourage people to contact the lawmakers in Washington to let us know how we the people feel about it.

Here’s a very good article on WND that references Dr. Dobson’s address – http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=98105 .
It has a link in it where you can FedEx ALL the Senators a letter how you disagree with this BAD LAW and encourage them to vote against it.

Here’s the article:

Dobson: ‘There’s utter evil coming out of Congress’Focus on the Family ministry founder condemns ‘Pedophile Protection Act’

James Dobson, the founder of the Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family Christian ministry, warned today that there is “utter evil” coming out of Washington, D.C., these days.
“I want to tell our listeners something has come up that is so shocking and so outrageous, we must make our friends out there aware of it,” he said on his daily radio program.
“I’m going to speak very bluntly today because there’s no other word for it: the utter evil that’s coming out of Congress,” he said. “I’ve been on the air 32 years and I’ve never seen a time quite like this.
“The radical left controls the executive branch through the president, and the Congress where the Democrats have control of both the House and the Senate,” he said, adding the courts are expected to move even further to the left.
The audio of the program is linked here.
The target of his worry is the so-called “Hate Crimes” already approved in the U.S. House and now pending in the Senate.
For a limited time, by special arrangement through WND, for only $10.95 members of the public can send 100 individually addressed letters to each senator by overnight mail. Each letter is individually “signed” by the sender. The letters ask for a written response and call for opposition to the bill, including by filibuster if necessary.
A hearing on the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, already approved by the U.S. House as H.R. 1913 and pending in the Senate as S. 909, is expected in the Senate Judiciary Committee soon. It’s been described by Shawn D. Akers, policy analyst with Liberty Counsel, as a bill to create penalties against “victims” who were chosen based on an “actual or perceived … sexual orientation, gender identity.”
Many have dubbed it the “Pedophile Protection Act,” and U.S. Reps. Louis Gohmert, R-Texas, and Steve King, R-Iowa, explained on Dobson’s program how they had tried to have majority Democrats in Congress define “sexual orientation” in the bill – and were refused.
They also tried to add an amendment that would state that pedophiles were not, in fact, protected under the law, and Democrats again voted to reject that idea.
King explained it’s part of a national effort by homosexual activists not to just have the freedom to choose their lifestyle, but to be able to demand approval and likewise condemn those who don’t agree with homosexuality.
More than 4,000 people already have sent 400,000-plus letters to the Senate expressing their concerns over the “Hate Crimes” plan, and the program has been extended indefinitely while the Senate has the plan pending.
First, he said, comes the so-called “hate crimes” law. Then will come the employment non-discrimination concept that says “thou shalt hire people of these proclivities.” Finally, there would come the imposition of nation-wide same-sex marriage combined with speech limits banning any criticism of that, restrictions that already are in place in Canada..
Gohmert pointed out that Christians and their pastors need especially to be worried because of the bull’s-eye being painted on them by homosexuals.
He said while the “hate crimes” bill says its provisions shouldn’t be used against religious statements, there’s an important word that follows that provision: “Unless.”
That’s unless “the evidence relates to that offense,” he said.
And under existing federal law, someone who “induces” a crime can be tried, convicted and sentenced as the principal. He said that leaves open pastors and Christians to be prosecuted should someone who commits a crime claim to have heard them speaking against homosexuality.
Dobson said such threats to free speech and religious rights “keeps me awake at night.”
He said the Christian community’s response should be a massive prayer campaign.
Gohmert said he sees a future for the United States, iIf we have another awakening. If we don’t, I’m not sure what’s left.”

“A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.” — Dwight Eisenhower

Our famous kids

One of the local radio stations has a weekly contest called the “CiCi’s pizza pledge”, where a class or homeschool gets chosen to say the pledge of allegiance on the air, and this week we got chosen! Here’s them saying the pledge on the air: http://www.wbfj.org/7.0/cicis09_baldwin/baldwin.mp3
Then that same day, a couple of the folks from the morning radio show come out to the house with free pizza from CiCi’s and hang out and meet with the kids. Here’s some photos of their lunch: http://www.wbfj.org/7.0/cicis09_baldwin/index.html
Kinda neat to get to have some local talent come visit, and the kids were SO excited to be on the air. They aired the pledge at 7:05AM – Hannah was actually up at 5:30 that morning, waiting to hear it.
Fun exciting day!

Until next time…..

How Does Your Garden Grow

Here it is, early May – and we’ve already had a meal out of our garden!!! ‘Course it was “just” lettuce, but how can you beat FRESH lettuce? LettuceOnionsCarrots We had our first strawberry of the year – in a couple of days we’re gonna have strawberries coming out of our ears. YUMMY. MMS_Resized_Pix.jpg
We’ve got a large corn plot planted this year. Hills and hills and hills of corn Gonna try out the “three sisters” method for corn. Hopefully it will give us a good crop, plus not be as weedy as it was last year. Peas, carrots, beans, onions are all coming along nicely. Life on “the farm” is busy this time of year, but it sure is worth it when you’re eating the fruits of your labor in January!

Until next time…..

PANicDEMIC

May 1, 2009 2 comments

A pastor friend of mine forwarded me a very good article on the swine flu panic. Here are some of my thoughts……….

Thanks for sharing that article. It really echoes a lot of my sentiments about this ‘pandemic’. Really, I think it’s the typical “follow the money” story of greed fueled by fear. Some of the headlines like: “Swine flu fear lifts Novavax stock” confirm this. And one very interesting fact that I was not aware of – it seems that the CDC is feeding the lamestream media people some very misleading ‘facts’. Most of the deaths that are blamed on influenza in the US are, in fact, NOT influenza deaths. They are pnuemonia deaths – NOT influenza. From this posting
“The CDC reports 36,000 influenza deaths a year. This is higher than the number that occurred in 1968-69 (a pandemic year) when 34,000 died. So, why isn’t every year a pandemic year? Because the CDC lumps flu deaths and pneumonia deaths together. The actual number of flu deaths is about 1,000 a year, although in a bad year it can approach 3,000. Why are the flu and pneumonia deaths lumped together? I don’t know. But there are those who feel it’s a scare tactic provided as a favor to drug companies so they can sell flu vaccines.”
Like the article below mentions – deaths from influenza are much less than are really reported. Most deaths are a secondary infection like pneumonia, or strep:
“Just a couple of months ago, scientists concluded that the 1918 flu pandemic that killed between 50-100 million people worldwide in a matter of 18 months — which all these worst case scenarios are built upon — was NOT due to the flu itself! Instead, they discovered the real culprit was strep infections. People with influenza often get what is known as a “superinfection” with a bacterial agent. In 1918 it appears to have been Streptococcus pneumoniae. Since strep is much easier to treat than the flu using modern medicine, a new pandemic would likely be much less dire than it was in the early 20th century, the researchers concluded.”

As far as any vaccines -my family and I are personally going to avoid any vaccines for this panic-demic. I honestly don’t feel that something rushed to the public quickly enough to prevent infection from a disease already ‘in the wild’ has gone thru enough testing to be safe. But that’s a choice that’s up to you.

Thanks again for sharing the article, it makes a whole lot more sense than the “tin-foil hat” crowd eugenics screaming, or the lamestream media panic-inducing garbage that we’re all gonna die without a vaccine. I think if we all the common sense God gave us, we can see this ‘pandemic’ for what it really is – just another trick of the enemy to instill fear in us. That doesn’t mean ignore it, we should still take prudent measures to be prepared for stormy weather, just keep a level head and use your common sense.

Until next time…..
