Progress…….

July 21, 2014 Leave a comment

We spent the last week up on the land, working on it with a big excavator and generally trying to make improvements.  Here’s some comparisons:

How things were about 1 year ago:
Very first day up there –

How we spend about 4 months worth of weekends –
P7290055

And now for the comparison

How things look today:
Week of 7/14

no more bending over to cook

Now that we have the road up, we can make big progress. It was VERY nice to be able to drive up to the camping area, instead of the 1/2 mile hike, carrying everything on our back. We were extremely blessed to be able to get this much accomplished, and for having extra help over the weekend.  We hope to be able to continue making progress, even though it seems to take much longer than we want it to.

Until next time…..

New blessing…..

One of our laying hens apparently went broody on us, and she did a good job of hiding her nest.  The children went out this morning to gather eggs, and guess what….

10 new chicks hatched by a momma, instead of the machine that we’ve been using.  We’ll of course put momma and the babies in a good tight chicken “tractor” to protect them from the roaming beasts at night, but still give them plenty of fresh grass and bugs to learn to peck at.  We’ve not been having a high enough success rate with the incubator this year, even after adding the fan, and the humidity meter.  This is a very nice surprise.  It’s great when God blesses us in unexpected ways!

Until next time…..
